Yup, you heard me. Be selfish.
Occasionally, it’s in your best interest to be selfish. You are the only one that 100% knows what is best for yourself. Whether it be consciously or subconsciously, you know what you need to do in order to get the most beneficial outcome.
Do you ever have that gut feeling that you need to do something? Nine times out of ten I almost guarantee you ignore it. You might say to yourself, “No, that will hurt someone’s feelings” or “It doesn’t matter anyway.” But guess what, it does matter, and who gives a damn if it hurts someone else’s feelings. It’s your life.
Now, I’m not saying that you should go around completely disregarding everyone and only care about yourself 100% of the time. Because you and me both know that is completely ridiculous. There are times when you should be selfless rather than selfish, and you’ll know it. It’s called intuition my friends. (Or instinct, I’m not really sure what the difference is.)
Once my dad told me that humans are the only animal that do not listen to their instincts, and I completely agree. If I told you to sit back and think about a moment when you didn’t listen to the little voice in your head telling you not to (or telling you to) do something, then I almost promise you could think if an instance in less than 30 seconds. It’s kind of insane when you think about it. We have this built in life GPS thing inside of us, and we practically never listen to it.
How stupid. (for lack of a better word)
Do me a favor and think of one thing that you wouldn’t let yourself do for the sake of someone else. Something that you genuinely want. Something that you have thought about time and time again, but you keep telling yourself no.
Good. Now go do it. Right now at this very moment either make concrete plans to do it or just simply do it. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned, it’s that life is too short to hold yourself back. You need to be selfish, go after what you want, and do it right now.
(Just don’t be an idiot and/or hurt yourself.)
